Internship / Working Student Spring/Summer 2023 (H/J, Breeding/Training)

Internships of 2- 3 months (6 days/week with one day off per week) available this year in Middleburg VA, USA will provide an opportunity for experience with 6-8 horses, from neonates (new foals) to seniors, including breeding mares, young stock in training, and riding/showing horses. Inner Bay Equestrian is a small farm producing 1-3 jumper-bred foals a year from our small mare herd. While some foals are sold, we typically raise and train our young horses, preparing and participating with them in Hunter Breeding, Young Horse Show qualifiers, and registry inspections This is not primarily a riding job, but some riding possible depending on available horses and experience. Interns to assist with all aspects of: daily barn chores, including but “not limited to” stalls, turnouts, feeding, tacking, bathing, tack care, assisting with vet and farrier visits, etc (bonus: dogs, chickens, cats). Foals are well handled, and all horses are cared for at a high standard. Other projects range from equipment organization and groundskeeping to setting jumps for schooling, show grooming, website/social media maintenance and sponsor relations. We assure ample opportunity to establish contacts with and spend time at the nearby farms of our Olympic level coach and mentor, the elite hunter trainers next door to us, and with our young horse trainers. Competitions in May and June often coincide with the recent arrival of spring interns to the team, bringing immediate networking opportunities, getting things off to a quick start! Summers can be quiet, depending on the heat, with inspections and further competitions picking up again in September/October/November. Great resumé and skill building position.
