Shangrila Guest Ranch is seeking a mature individual/couple or family to join our operation. We are a small, family owned guest ranch with 50+ horses, (pastured - no stall mucking) located in Southern Virginia. If you are passionate about horses and ranch living, personable and enjoy spending long hours in the saddle, then this could be for you!
Days with Guests- Start with breakfast at the Packhouse. Meeting and having breakfast with guests family style. Then gather up and tack horses for a trail ride to a lunch destination. Tie up and have lunch with guests for approximately an hour. Then trail ride back to the ranch returning some time between 3-4 pm, depending on guests. Untack horses, groom and return to pastures. Check water buckets and prepare campfire. Meet back at the Packhouse between 5-5:30 to assist with and have dinner with guests. After dinner help clear, clean up and enjoy the campfire with guests. Other chores/duties may include checking fences, cleaning/repairing tack, mowing, operating farm equipment, feeding, washing, caring for and riding horses, washing dishes and cleaning cabins as needed.
Ideal candidate will be a confident rider with riding experience and knowledge of caring for horses. An understanding of hospitality which includes being self motivated and an outgoing personality. Can contribute to marketing and other aspects of the operation. Candidate must be physically fit and able to spend long hours in the saddle.
Other skills that could be utilized (but not required) - carpentry, electrical, small repairs.
Requirements
Self-motivated, hard-working, non-smoker, drama-free and positive attitude. This is not just a business -- it's our home as well, and we want our guests to feel it's "their" home away from home. Our residence is on the grounds, but it is private. We have two children and are not looking for more dependents of any age.
