The Dorset Equine Rescue is hiring (located in East Dorset, VT)! We are growing again and are looking for a Barn Manager to join our team.
The barn manager is responsible for the day to day care of approximately 25-30 horses. These responsibilities will include stable management, employee supervision, and grounds management. We are looking for a very reliable, organized, self-motivated individual with extensive horse experience and 3-5 years of barn management experience. Must be experienced and confident handling and caring for abused, traumatized and feral horses.
The barn manager must be a team player and adept at creating and maintaining efficient systems to run stable and grounds care routines; have strong, timely, and sophisticated communication skills; and be capable of handling the physical demands of the position. Must have experience creating nutritionally sound feeding programs; providing medical care including recognizing symptoms of illness and lameness, administering oral medications, wound care and bandaging; organizing and overseeing vet and farrier visits, barn chores, feeding schedules, stall/paddock mucking, farm cleanliness, and grain, hay, and bedding supplies. Horse trailering experience is a must. We are a small team and a large amount of your time will include hands-on chores such as cleaning, mucking, organizing, meeting with vet and farrier, and horse care. 35-40 hours/week. Occasional overtime necessary in an emergency. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must have a clean driving record. One weekend day required. Minimum 2 year college degree required.
