Looking for a working student to join our team that (1) wants to show in reining and stock horse events (2) enjoys being involved with young adults with and without learning disabilities, (3) willing to learn and use barefoot trimming techniques, (4) believes that both horses and people like to be in control of their environment. Most of the horses being used in our program have been born here as have their mothers and grandmothers. They have been sired by stallions that have produced performance horses that have won over a million dollars in cutting or reining. In addition to raising and training performance horses, we are also involved in an equine jobs for youth program. This program was developed to help youths primarily in the 18 to 23 year old age range find employment. The program includes both young adults with learning disabilities and young adults without learning disabilities. Because of the strategies used to train our horses, all of the horses can be used in this program. Since the purpose of the program is to prepare young adults for equine related occupations these students are taught a wide variety of horse related skills based on their interests and background experiences. Some of the skills they are taught include but are not limited to barn maintenance, farm maintenance, horse handling, and barefoot trimming. The working student's main focus would be on learning to train horses of all age levels in such a way that (1) they can be shown in performance horse competition, and (2) they can be used in our equine jobs for youth program. There is a full time barn manager in charge of cleaning the stalls. The position includes a small stipend based on experience, housing, wifi, and evening meals six days a week. We are located in Alvin, TX which is halfway between Houston and Galveston.
Needs to be an excellent rider who is open to new ideas. Past experience starting colts and working with young horses a plus.
Private housing in rv with self contained living area, dining area, kitchen, shower, and bath.

In Texas the yearly income for barefoot trimmer can exceed $70,000 while that of a farrier averages $36,000. Help young adults with and without special needs find employment in the equine world and work with own sons and daughter of some "living legends" such as Mr Melody Jac, Gallo Del Cielo, Wimpys Little Step, Von Reminic, and Sonitalena. A full time barn manager, responsible for most of the stall cleaning and horse maintenance lives on site. The position includes housing, utilities, wifi, and evening meals six days a week. Located on rural site with access to 1000's of acres but within walking distance of more than 30 restaurants and can lead to a permanent position.
