YMCA Camp Cullen is looking for equestrian staff who are passionate about sharing their love of horses and who can help us impact the lives of our campers with riding programs that build confidence, impart life skills, enrich values, and teach campers how to build and deepen relationships with others. Summer wranglers are responsible for all aspects of care for our herd of 50 horses and the instruction of campers in horsemanship skills. Many of our campers are casual riders who ride two or three times during their week of camp and earn levels as they advance in their riding skills and knowledge of horsemanship. They mainly ride western and play games in the arena, but can also enjoy over 200 acres of trails after demonstrating basic skills. Our horsemanship specialty track program provides more avid riders with the chance to ride every day they are at camp with a small class of other riders of similar skill level and learn more in-depth material as they practice their English or western riding skills through games, patterns, and trail riding; try new disciplines; and learn groundwork and horsemanship theory. Wranglers will teach classes in pairs according to skill level and experience. Wranglers will gain experience in horse health care, feeding and herd management, lesson planning, horse training and behavior, and coaching riders of different skill levels and ages in various disciplines. Apply by emailing resume to Kelly.Agorichas@ymcahouston.org.
