Coves Darden Farm offers Internships for aspiring equine professionals in two departments on our farm. 1- Dressage young horse training department. 2- Equine reproduction department.
We offer 6 month sessions -1.5 year sessions. We accept applications year round. Please contact us for availability. This internship is paid minimum wage and includes housing plus utilities. Students must have a car, provide their own groceries and bedding. No pets. Privately owned horses may be boarded. International interns eligible under the visa program are also welcome.
1, Young horse training internship: Learn how to train young green broke horses in dressage. Learn to ride them over the back, establish good contact and help prepare horses for presentation and sale. You must have a secure and quiet seat and be able to use your hands independently from your seat. You will help with General horse care, groom, prepare, tack and untack, turn out, help feed as well as ride. This is a hands on learning opportunity about every aspect of handling and training young horses.
2, Equine reproduction: Gain practical experience with foal handling and care, breeding and post foaling procedures. Learn how to instill good ground manners in young stock. Hands on experience with herd care.
6 days per week 7:00am-10:00pm, break, 10:30am -3:30pm
At the end of the term students will receive a certificate of completion and feedback regarding their performance. We provide references to future employers upon request.
Application forms for Internship can be downloaded from Coves Darden farm website. If you are applying for dressage department please include at least 1 quality video of you riding for review. Videos that are too unsteady and/or do not zoom in on the horse and rider effectively will not be considered.
Only applicants with a serious interest in acquiring professional skills should apply. Individual must be willing to fully apply themselves to the task on hand, be on time, follow directions and behave responsibly.
Room in furnished guest house with use of kitchen and appliances. No Pets
Hands on learning of an important part of training horses. Practical experience handling young horses for professional preparation. Work with an intelligent breed of horses. You will receive a certificate of completion and feedback regarding your performance. You will gain a reference from an established equine training and sales facility to use on your resume. 10% commission on sales when you bring the customer. Possibility of competing horses in recognized Dressage shows in region 1 and 3. Possible participation in clinics imparted by visiting clinicians.
Coves Darden Farm is a large breeding, training and sales facility dedicated to the P.R.E. (PURE BRED SPANISH HORSES). We offer stud service to breeders around the world and produce an average of 20 foals per year which we train, and prepare for sale in Dressage. Our horses have competed successfully at the National Finals every year, at Devon and lamplight both in the young horse and developing Grand Prix. We produce horses for competition and enjoyment.
