Stable Manager

Summary of Job Function:

• Responsible for the day-to-day care and development of Hunt staff horses and stable

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Feeding and Nutrition: researching and developing a feeding program that best suits the unique needs of the Hunt horses for the best value. Feeding 2-3 times per day
• Medical and First Aid: treating chronic, on-going, traumatic injury and disease in the Hunt horses. Working with the veterinarian to formulate treatments for serious issues. Being “on call” at all times in the event of emergency with the horses.
• Exercising and Conditioning: overall responsibility for daily riding and training of green and veteran horses with the assistance of the Huntsman and First Whipper-In. Hound walking and hunting green horses to acclimate them to their jobs.
• Stable Maintenance: Overseeing and working to always keep the stable at a standard in keeping with the tradition of CHC and expectations of its members
• Turnout of Staff Horses: dedication to daily grooming, bathing, etc. Clipping when needed. Braiding for holidays, joint meets, and special occasions
• Transportation of horses on hunting days
• Care/ purchase of equipment: daily care and upkeep of equipment such as tack, machinery, etc. necessary to maximize longevity and safety. Purchase of stable supplies within budget. Communication with Treasurer on large purchases.
• Assist with Kids Hunt Camp, Cheshire Races, and other Hunt activities as needed

Organizational Relationships:

• Reports directly to Huntsman
• Coordinates with Hunt staff
• Must work well in team environment

• As directed by Masters and Huntsman
