The groom is responsible for the care and day-to-day management of Grand Prix competitor, clinician, and Dancing Horse Farm Owner, Jen Truett's, personal show horses and all training horses. There is a possibility that the groom will also work for Jen in Wellington, FL during winter seasons: Jan-Mar.
This position requires excellent interpersonal communication skills to facilitate clear communication between Owner/Head Trainer and staff, clients, veterinarian, farrier, body workers, etc. Groom must be able to work quickly, start and stay on time, and follow directions. This person must LOVE horses, be very personable, work as a team player with the rest of the DHF Team, and be self-directed and motivated.
Applicant must also be able to logically process information, develop a game plan, communicate their ideas clearly and succinctly, implement agreed upon processes, and follow up/check-in with everyone in communication loops. Applicant must thrive on intense attention to every minute detail of each horse, noticing even minor changes from normal states: physical, mental, social, appetite, etc. The groom also assists co-workers with farm duties like moving hay, arena dragging, maintenance, night checks, AM feedings, stall cleaning, turn-out/bring-in, etc. as scheduled/needed.
We believe it is our responsibility to provide education and experience to our staff members in every aspect of our business, both riding and everything else that makes the riding possible. In addition to learning about horse care, farm care and client interactions, this job also enhances team skills, independence and decision making. We offer opportunities for interested staff members to learn about the business side as well. Our goal is to help our staff prepare to be able to handle any challenge they face in their equestrian careers, in and out of the saddle.
REQUIREMENTS This is a full-time, live-in position that generally requires between 45 and 55 hours per week with one day off. This job is only available to legal US citizens
Applicant must have experience working in dressage, jumper, or hunter barn so they can handle the fast-paced intensity and demands of the job. Duties include, but are not limited to: tacking, warm-up/cool-down hand walking, basic medical and therapeutic care, tack cleaning, show preparation, show grooming, braiding.

Dancing Horse Farm maintains a busy schedule of dressage clinics with international competitors and clinicians and caters to all riding levels from training to Grand Prix. In addition to a salary, housing (female-only dormitory) and partial-care board for one horse, you will receive riding instruction and will learn about barn management, horse care and other things according to your skill and experience level.
Over 40 acres with four-rail fenced pastures and automatic waterers; dry-lots with all-weather footing; a 1/2 mile racetrack; 61 matted box stalls, most 12’x14’; a 75' x 200' indoor arena with state-of-the-art FutureTrak fiber and sand footing, slanted kick walls, over 125 linear feet of 6’ tall mirrors, and surround-sound system for clinics and musical freestyle rides. A climate-controlled observation room with a powder room overlooks the indoor. The indoor arena also allows ample room for participant riders and up to 100 auditors for Educational Events. The indoor and outdoor arenas both got new footing in 2016.
Other amenities: each barn has: tack room with individual tack lockers, washer/dryer for horse laundry, powder rooms, two hot/cold water wash stalls, two grooming stalls. Also, we have a 70' lunging arena; a 100' x 240' and a 70' x 190' outdoor arenas with sand footing; staff apartments in each barn for grooms and working students.
