Camp Mondamin is a traditional, but unique summer program for boys age 6 to 17. Located in the Mountains of Western North Carolina, we emphasize outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, mountain biking, rock climbing, and horseback riding. We believe in fun, adventure, safety, and great instruction.

Our riding program includes 14 trail and lesson horses. Several rings for lessons and learning skills that will be used on the trail. Access to miles of trails at our neighboring sister camp. We offer horse camping trips on our property as well as local state parks.

Job Duties Include: Under the direction of the Head of Riding you will be responsible for organizing and leading trail rides/day trips during regular activity times. Leading and organizing camping trips ranging from overnights to 3-days. Willing to plan and help cook meals for up to 8 people on trips. Must be able to deal with unforeseen problems with rider/horse combinations. Ability to teach basic riding lessons for campers to gain skills to go on trips. Help with general barn chores and horse care under the direction of the barn manager. This position will spend a fair amount of time out of camp sleeping in the outdoors.

Requirements

Applicants need to have strong fundamentals in western or english riding, bonus having experience as a wrangler, guiding trail rides or experience camping with horses; must be at least 21 years of age. Applicant should have experience teaching children basic riding skills either english or western. Applicants must have a Wilderness First Responder Certification (WFR). Camp offers the course before orientation if you are not already certified.

Salaries are individually determined based on your age, experience and skills. Our salaries compare favorably with most other camps. Food and Lodging are covered by us for the time that you work here, as all of us sleep here at camp and eat in a common dining room. You have 36 hours per week leave (a day and 2 nights).

We own and train our own school of horses which we have done since 1945. Our program goes hand in glove with the standardized forward riding system of the American National Riding Commission (ANRC).
