Position Summary: Barn manager is the primary supervisor of the physical barn and responsible for the overall health of the herd. The Barn Manager will oversee every aspect of horse care, including vet and farrier visits, supplies and feed, daily mucking and barn chores, as well as scheduling and management of barn employees. This role is a significant one and requires an expert knowledge of horses, quick decision making, flexibility, and leadership qualities.

- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds for up to 10 feet and sustain aerobic activity for 30 consecutive minutes
- Must be able to work in a variety of positions, including but not limited to: stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, sitting
- Must be able to tolerate a variety of outdoor conditions, varying turf surfaces, air-conditioned buildings, and fluorescent lights
- Must be able to operate and use equipment necessary to perform essential functions of the job
- Exercise common sense and can take initiative to accomplish tasks and make decisions Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Equine Studies
- Veterinary technician or related degree or equivalent experience
- Nonprofit experience
- Barn management software experience and willingness to utilize
- Experience working with people with disabilities
Requirements
Duties:
- Hiring & firing of barn/stable employees and volunteers
- Training new barn employees and volunteers
- Scheduling and overseeing barn/stable staff and volunteers
- Following feeding, mucking & turnout schedule
- Ordering supplies & feed
- Maintaining horse budget, paying invoices
- Making decisions about turnout (overnight or otherwise) including which, if any, horses should live outdoors and at what time(s) of year
- Communicating barn/ property maintenance needs to Groundskeeper
- Maintaining barn equipment, supply & feed inventory
- Dispensing & applying prescribed medications and treatments
- Arranging and overseeing vet visits, worming & shots
- Overseeing farrier scheduling & visits
- Handling manure disposal from barn and pastures
- Making sure riding arenas are regularly picked up and harrowed
Other Duties:
- Responsible for feeding and seeking medical care for equines/animals on the property as necessary
- Running barn-related errands and adhering to special requests as needed
- Consulting with administrative and therapeutic staff as needed
- Help in special events as needed
- Other duties as assigned
