Seeking a riding and show focused assistant rider/groom for our family eventing barn. Anticipated 25 hrs per week, with opportunity for more. Must be a competent horse person. Clean drivers license required, ability to safely drive truck and trailer a plus.
Occasional weekend work could be required, including typical chores.
Learning opportunities with top trainers, chances to travel, and some competition for the right candidate. Ideally, candidate would be based in Buffalo, NY or Geneseo, NY, but would be excited to spend winter months in Aiken, SC.
**Position responsibilities and duties:
- Riding & fitting up multiple horses per owner’s schedule, including hacking and weekly lessons
- Show prep & grooming
- Grooming, braiding, clipping & tacking horses
- Tack and basic stable care
Requirements
Confident, calm and ambitious rider with an interest in Three Day Eventing, schooling, lunging, clipping, braiding/plaiting, equine first aid.
- Enjoy working outdoors in all temperatures and conditions
- Eventing experience - experience in the dressage or hunter/jumper world and a desire to try eventing also accepted, we’re happy to make a convert!
- Have references available
- Able to regularly lift 50 pounds, and comfortable with extensive periods of sitting, standing and bending down during shift
- Honesty, reliability, willingness to learn and a can-do attitude
