We are looking for the right fit for someone to help part-time, 2-3 full days/week (with the opportunity for more), at our small, family farm of retired and performance horses who receive individualized care. We have housing available as well as the opportunity for the right person to bring a horse +/- receive training (hunter/jumper or flatwork) if of interest. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with another job (horse-related or not) who wants housing in the mid-Hudson Valley and to be part of a meaningful barn environment. This would also be a good match for someone with veterinary or nutrition interests who want to be involved with caring for horses at a high standard of care without the pressure of a typical boarding, training, or larger farm.
Specific horse care responsibilities follow our horses’ (and donkey’s) schedules. For my retiree and his donkey, this includes morning turnout (closely monitored), feedings and oral medication administration, stall/barn cleaning, and turn-in later with ice boots, grooming, and paddock picking. Because of my retiree's digestive concerns and diet, they are checked on and fed small meals throughout the afternoon (typically 3 meals) and their stalls get cleaned each time. In the evenings, each come out again to stretch their legs and eat while the barn and stalls get cleaned again and bedded down for the night. My younger show jumping mare has a similar day, but with riding as well.
Requirements
We hope to find someone passionate about providing a high standard of horse care with an eye for detail. A relatively quiet, conscientious, compassionate demeanor is a must, as well as following directions and good communication.

Depending on the individual, this position could either be paid or be paid via offering housing. We have private rooms both on the property with the barn (but separate from the barn) and 10 minutes down the road. This is not your typical barn living set-up - we have pleasant, well-cared for and maintained living spaces that are in our current (modern farmhouse) and previous (19th century farmhouse) homes in a very desirable area of NY’s mid-Hudson Valley.
Other job benefits include the opportunity to bring a horse +/- receive hunter/jumper or flatwork training if of interest. This is a pleasant, supportive working environment with kind people (it is just me and my parents) who are passionate about providing the very best for our three equines.

We are building a 5-stall barn & indoor ring in summer/fall 2023 in High Falls, NY where my family and I will live on the property with my two horses and donkey. We are seeking part-time (with the opportunity for more anytime I go away) help with the horses and barn starting summer/fall 2023 with the opportunity for housing +/- ability to bring your own horse.
Currently, while our new barn is being built, I have my 2 horses & donkey that I manage meticulously at my house and my younger eventing mare at a small dressage farm down the road. At our home, Whitfield Farm, we have a custom Amish-built two stall barn for my older boy & his donkey, with a few turnout areas for them each (dry lots & grass options; they can have limited pasture due to their insulin status). Our set-up is small but ideal for my retiree & his needs!
