We are accepting applications for students who want to learn to train young sport horses. We instruct our students how to bring a horse along from the ground up. You will be handling yearlings, 2 year olds and 3 year olds, as well as some reschooling with older horses. Candidates need to bring their own horse at the beginning of the program.
Come out and stay for a couple days and see how much instruction you will receive! We can pick you up at the airport and you can stay in on the farm to interview. Minimum ability: Must be comfortable handling and riding green and inexperienced horses. You will be working with quality horses every afternoon and have a private or small group lesson 4x a week. You'll learn what the training scale is, and how to determine where a particular horse is in it's education. Immerse yourself in a program centered around your training goals and future.
If you enjoy young horses and "light bulb" moments, this is the spot for you! Daily barn work, including mucking, feeding, turnin/out etc in exchange for stipend, 4 lessons a week, working with horses every afternoon, housing, field board for your own horse (stalls available and are additional) and trailering to local events/schoolings. Afternoon grooming option available to increase pay.
It's $2400/mo in value. Min age 18yrs with a high school diploma or equivalent, a driver's license and health insurance for the duration of your stay.

Private bedroom in large beautiful furnished apartment on farm. Share bath/kitchen/living and laundry areas with up to 5 others. Bedrooms furnished, kitchen suppiles stocked including Dishwasher, Internet, and private pantry for each student. Utilites/DirectTV paid except long distance phone. No house pets.
Job Benefits
Lessons 4x week, housing for you, field board for one horse (that you will ride daily) and a $200-$350 weekly stipend. Opportunities to make more depending on skills as many of our resident students move up into grooms jobs ($500/wk).

Although I am still a relatively new Resident Working Student here at Bascule Farm I can already feel the improvement in my riding and my confidence. Julie, Dick and the rest of the instructors here are always so positive in their feedback and make you feel so proud of ever accomplishment, no mater how small it might be. Now, the "work" side of it. Yes, you will have to clean stalls/barn aisles, dump/clean/fill water buckets, clean tack and lead horses in and out, but the system they have in place here makes it not so bad. We work as a team here and that makes it much easier. Be prepared for LOTS of walking! This is a big property and there is a lot of ground to cover. Our day starts at 7am and is usually done by 530/6pm, but there are some days that you will be out later. I am so happy that I made the decision to come to Bascule Farm and I cannot wait to see where this amazing opportunity take me.
