Assistant Barn Manager

We’re looking for an experienced horseperson to assist in leading the day-to-day operations of our 33 stall Main Barn. Position responsibilities focus on general horse care at an industry leading sporthorse facility with the opportunity to work around top competition horses and breeding stallions. Regular duties include stall cleaning, turning out, feeding, administering medications/therapies, holding for vet/farrier, general barn cleaning, and leading the day in the absence of the manager. The position is a five-day work week but does require weekends (i.e. days off will be weekdays). Ideal applicant will have 5+years in horse care, solid horse handling skills, experience in the sporthorse industry, and enjoy a fast-paced team environment.

Horse Care Duties: Feed horses 2-4x/day at regularly scheduled times Facilitate basic exercise, including turnout, treadmill, and walker Administer medications/therapies Assist with therapies and rehab needs such as hand-walking, cold hosing, ice boots, etc. Hold for vet, farrier, etc. Monitor horse health and notify the Manager promptly with any concerns Groom breeding stallions/rehabbing horses at least 2x/week and maintain a readily presentable appearance through clipping and mane pulling Change blankets as weather requires Maintain turnout equipment, cleaning and conditioning halters, leadshanks, and turnout boots Occasional after-hour duties, including night check and medical emergencies Serve as team lead in the absence of the Main Barn Manager

Facility Duties: Muck stalls and rebed with straw/shavings Sweep, rake, and vacuum barn aisles and entry ways Cobweb, dust and simple green Clean stall and field waterers Pick field sheds, feed stalls, round pen, walker, and stallion paddocks Identify maintenance issues/concerns and report to the Main Barn Manager Perform additional duties as assigned
