Midway University is seeking a high energy, well organized, equine Western Herd Trainer/IHSA Coach. This is a full-time position, which requires flexibility. Working hours may vary due to changing needs of the program during spring and fall semesters, emergent situations, as well as Western team coaching duties. Holidays are worked on a rotating basis. The following is intended only to describe the general nature of the job and should not be construed as an all-inclusive list of position responsibilities: This position is responsible for overseeing the health, conditioning, and training of the Western horses. Other responsibilities include assisting in the management of the farm, including herd health; support, oversight and coordination of work study students and their duties/projects as well as coaching IHSA Western riding team. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate proficient horse handling skills and preferably have the ability to operate farm equipment (tractor, arena drag, manure spreader, watering tank, bush hog and weed eater, as examples).

High school diploma is required; however, consideration will be given to those candidates with an equivalent combination of education, experience and training. Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Western riding and teaching background necessary. This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Highly desirable qualifications include: Equine rehab knowledge and prior Veterinary tech or assistant experience. Position requires long hours of standing and walking, heavy lifting and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
