- Train and ride 3-year-old and older horses for show jumping, including jumping up to 1.20m and conducting flat work, trail riding, and conditioning exercises.
- Lunge horses to prepare them for training sessions and maintain their fitness levels.
- Maintain the fitness and well-being of all horses through regular riding, exercise, and fitness programs.
- Groom horses before and after riding, ensuring they are clean and well-maintained.
- Assist with therapy treatments, such as icing, wrapping, and other rehabilitative care as directed by the Equine Manager.
- Handle daily horse care tasks such as turning horses out into pastures, bringing them in, managing pasture rotations, and operating the horse walker.
- Monitor equine health, including assisting with the treatment and bandaging of injuries, and communicate any issues to the Equine Manager.
- Ensure the horse barn, crossties, and surrounding areas are clean, organized, and safe.
- Assist with miscellaneous ranch duties, including occasional maintenance tasks and supporting other team members as needed.
Requirements
- At least 5-10 years of experience working with equines, with a focus on training young horses.
- Minimum of 5 years of riding and training show jumping horses.
- Knowledge of safe work practices around horses and livestock, with experience observing and reporting equine health and behavior.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must be 18 years or older, drug-free, and authorized to work in the United States.
- Physical requirements: ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, lift 80-100 lbs, and perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, and climbing.
- Strong commitment to teamwork, flexibility, and adhering to ranch policies and procedures.

Pomponio Ranch operates ranching and equestrian businesses out of two locations. We are at PR South which operates an equestrian facility in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. We train horses and riders for elite international horse show jumping competition. Karl Cook and Eric Navet are the two primary elite riders for Pomponio Ranch. The facility also accommodates third party horse boarders who keep and train their horses on-site.
