We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard working member to join our small team of eventing and dressage horses.
Based in the Waikato, 10 minutes from Hamilton City, we have a small yard of 6-7 eventing and dressage horses.
Ranging from newly broken youngsters to FEI level horses we are looking for a confident and competent person to help run the yard, with all the duties that go along with it and help us produce our horses for competition and sale. We are a young husband and wife team who have both trained in Europe and are rebuilding our team after a stint overseas.
Lots of riding opportunities for the right person, including the opportunity to compete, the role requires the attributes listed below.
Great opportunity for someone to gain international experience in both riding and grooming. We work hard, have high standards, but also a lot of fun.
Although preferred - previous professional grooming experience is not required, as long as skills listed above are solid, but riding references and a video must be supplied - riding will be a big part of your job as we have too many horses than we can cope with for the coming season. We have a busy competition schedule planned so will a great season.
In addition we are hoping to find someone who is comfortable keeping an eye on our baby on the odd occasion if required - we will always be around/close by but on the odd the occasion we both need to ride at the same time for example you need to be ok with keeping an eye on her for a short period.
We are looking for someone until at least May 2019 - though a longer term position is an option. Must have or be able to get the required visas.
Start date negotiable but prefer November.
The ability and willingness to work on ones own (as half of your day will be sole charge work as we both work). This requires initiative, the ability to follow instructions and maintain high standards without supervision.
A confident and competent rider - a lot of our horses are young, and this job will require hacking them out, taking them out to new places and potentially to their first shows and although they are lovely horses, they do young horse things and will be occassionally fresh/exuberant - so someone who has experience riding/producing young horses is essential. References of your abilities as videos of you riding will be required. If you have no experience with young horses and are an unconfident rider this is not the role for you.
A cheerful deposition - we are looking for a team member who is happy in their work and understanding of the realities of working with horses - somedays are easy, fun, you finish early and the sun shines, other days are hard work and it rains all day - so a person who is upbeat despite this is important.
Key skills required (in addition to the above):
