We require an honest, enthusiastic and hardworking person with excellent social and communication skills to look after and drive our horses, to give horse drawn taxi rides and tours for our hotel guests, keep all areas and equipment immaculate and help out with other departments at busy times.
We need someone who has had experience of looking after horses, who genuinely cares for their welfare and is responsible and confident working alone or as part of a small team. We can provide training for the harness and carriage driving aspects but applicants should be competent at all other aspects of horse care. We also have a young horse to train and bring on. We require a very high customer service ethic, standard of dress and carriage turnout so we need someone who really takes a pride in their appearance. The yard and surrounding areas are also open to the public and must be kept immaculate. A good team spirit is essential as is the ability to communicate well with everyone involved and entertain the guests.

You will stay in the hotel's purpose built staff house with ensuite rooms, shared facilities and free wifi. All meals, laundry and room cleaning are provided. We are situated in a sheltered valley, above a beautiful beach on the magical, car free island of Sark.

I did 2 seasons on Sark at Stocks Hotel as a Carriage Driver (2020 and 2021). Although very experienced with horses, I had never driven before, but full training was given with kind and experienced horses, so don't don't let that put you off! The job itself is varied, but mainly involves looking after the horses and giving guests tours of the island, and a great part of the job is learning the history and quirks of the island. You'll work hard, but for very lovely people and in a unique environment. Fantastic facilities as a live-in worker - meals cooked, rooms cleaned and laundry done - means that your time outside of work is your own to explore the island, with lots to do and see. You also live with all the other hotel staff, so lots of social activities to do if you want. I highly recommend Stocks Hotel as an employer and if you enjoy working hard and giving guests a great experience, you will love this job. The only reason I am not going back for 2022 is that I want to get back to competing, but I do hope to visit again. Please feel free to message me for more details.
