Trail Ride Management Position

This position is for someone that can handle responsibility, work alone and lead a team, and can wear several different hats: you will be responsible for the care of the trail horse herd as well as managing the trail ride department and its staff. (We are not looking for staff for anything related to hunter jumpers, dressage, showjumping, eventing in general). Applicants should have a strong background in both customer service and equine management as well as the ability to stay organized and communicate clearly. This is a full time salaried position for someone who is looking for a unique opportunity to combine a love of horses and engaging with people. We want to ideally create an experience that will plant the seed with guests to develop a deeper appreciation and love for horses.

Your tasks will include: • Daily welfare checks on the individual horses and administering of hay, water, feed, and medication as necessary. • Monitor long term health and happiness of the individual horses and make diet/tack/herd changes as required. • Schedule appointments with vet, farrier, chiropractor, massage therapist, saddle fitter, as needed. • Training and conditioning of trail horses as well as acquiring new trail horses. • Daily review of voicemails and emails and responding to guests accordingly. • Monitoring the return of deposits, taking of payments, applying of discounts, and tracking tip earnings for each guide. • Reviewing the daily rides and assigning an appropriate horse to each of the guests. • Preparing all necessary equipment and horses for rides and guide rides as needed. • Hiring and training of new guides. • Generating a schedule for the trail guide staff and calculating hours for payroll. • Communicating regularly with other department managers and attending periodic meetings. • Providing occasional support to other departments depending on the season and need.
