For a client of us, we are looking for a foal watch/ foaling attendant.
It is a big breeding and showjumping stable. They expect around 45 foals this year. They have very nice facilities and a loyal team of grooms/ riders/ stableworkers.
We are keen to find an experienced person willing to oversee the foalings. Obviously it is a live in position. The mares all get a foaling device (Sigloo) sutured into the vulvalips. So you are not expected to watch them all night. But when the alarm goes off, you will be required to go and check, and assist with the foaling when necessary. In case of emergencies the vet is living 10 minutes away, but obviously we need somebody who can realise when things are not going well and act on it appropriately. After the delivery you will have to check that mare and foal are doing ok, the foal starts drinking and afterbirth is expelled in due time.
During the day you will assist with:
- leading the mares and foals to the paddocks/fields and back to the stable
- assisting the vet with scanning mares
- cleaning the stocks
- giving hay
- handling mares and foals for veterinary checks/interventions -.....
We are looking for:
- a reliable person
- relevant experience with foaling down mares
- calm and confident around horses
- somebody who can handle an interrupted sleeping pattern for a few months
- able to work sole charge but also in team
- somebody who can start in April
- good enough condition to walk the mares and foals to the field
If you feel like you might be the right person for the job, please do get in touch!
