We are searching for a Foreperson to be based at our Carbine Lodge operation located in Flemington, Melbourne. The successful applicant will be responsible for the delivery of daily care, health, and nutrition regimes for racehorses in training, in accordance with the training plan, workplace procedures and OHS requirements.
The role includes supervising daily stable operations, trackwork, race day preparations and post-race activities, in addition to race day attendance. Forepersons provide contemporary leadership and will be responsible for the management of barn staff in addition to providing support to the Senior Foreman – Travel & People.
We are seeking a passionate, reliable, and hard-working person whose love and admiration for horses is as great as ours. You must be flexible, have a positive attitude, good work ethic and be willing to go above and beyond in your role.
Tasks include
~ Supervise daily barn operations including groundwork, walker, stable cleaning and maintenance of gear, equipment, and facilities.
~ Supervise daily section’s care of horses, including routine health checks, recognising ailments and signs of injury.
~ Implement and monitor feed and nutritional program, preparing and distributing feed.
~ Supervise race day preparation and post-race activities.
~ Supervision of barn staff including induction, performance management, discipline, leave and employee relation issues.
~ Implement compliance in applying safe systems of work and practices, including identifying and reporting risks and incidents.
Requirements
- Desirable ~ Experience in supervising an operational team, with the confidence and willingness to foster and lead a positive, respectful, inclusive and safe workplace culture. ~ Well-developed husbandry and horsemanship skills with a sound understanding of training and practices ~ Sound knowledge of horse health care and welfare requirements, including prevention and treatment of injury and disease ~ Strong presentation & communication skills, including the ability to deal with the media as required ~ IT confidence with practical experience in electronic record management, reporting systems and communication applications ~ Current Drivers Licence with a preparedness to work out of hours and weekends.

Carbine Lodge stables is the base for Godolphin’s horses in Melbourne and overlooks the back straight of Flemington Racecourse, home of 'the race that stops a nation', the G1 Melbourne Cup.
Facilities include 50 boxes and two horse walkers.
The horses trained at Carbine Lodge have access to the full range of training facilities at Flemington Racecourse. Encompassing a large range of training tracks including; two grass surfaces, two all-weather surfaces, two sand tracks, plus an equine swimming pool.
