I’m 19 and looking for a working student position to further my riding skills. I have just started cantering, and I aspire to be a trainer. I am motivated to make a career in the equine industry!
I will have earned (in April) my B.S. in Equestrian Science from William Woods University. I have experience working at breeding and training barns, and teaching lessons programs and summer camps. I plan to work on getting my PATH certification sometime after I graduate, and would be open to getting other certifications if an employer would prefer it.
I am an Equestrian Science Major at William Woods University, set to graduate in the last weekend of this April. My degree is focused on management, training, and lesson instruction. I love to teach! My primary discipline is hunter/jumper.
I grew up working at an equine rescue in Missouri, and have attended William Woods University for the last four years to earn (this April) my B.S. in Equestrian Science. I have taken classes on equine injury and care, stable and personelle management, teaching techniques, riding classes, and much more! I primarily ride hunter/jumper, but have also taken classes in dressage, saddle seat, and long lining/driving. I have worked many clinics and shows as a groom, and have had jobs working at both breeding and training barns. I am comfortable working with young/green horses, brood mares, studs, and rescue horses. I have a passion for teaching anyone who wants to be able to ride and jump. My specialty is absolute beginners up through the intermediate level (2'6"-2'9" hunter/jumper). I am also very experienced with horse management and care, and am very comfortable running a facility of 10+ horses on a daily basis, from basic facility care and grooming to daily work and injury management. I am also comfortable working with very green horses on the basics of care and handling/riding.
My primary seat is hunter/jumper, and I prefer to ride and compete over fences below 3' (although I would like to raise that bar in the future). I love working day-in and -out with horses on ground work, work on the flat, ground poles and cavalettis, and then to jumping fences (individual, combinations, or courses). I enjoy project horses that need a little extra schooling before students can ride them. I also enjoy riding to keep a horse fit and ready to show or be used in lessons/clinics.
I have competed in schooling and recognized shows in the Greater St. Louis area, all under the 3' level. I have not had many opportunities to show yet, and am looking forward to expanding my showing career in the future. Much of my show experience is in taking students and fellow riders to shows and teaching, managing, and grooming for them (depending on the occasion). I prefer to help my students succeed and compete at shows rather than being in the show ring myself.
