Qualifications

Professional; reliable; experienced in horse grooming and handling as well as barn management and cleaning; many years of experience supervising people at many different levels. I don't have specific equine first aid experience, but I am confident I would learn these skills quickly and would follow all preferred practices. I have 9+ years experience in both human and small animal medicine as a medical laboratory technician, phlebotomist, and shelter assistant at an animal shelter.

Duties of Current Occupation

Most recently I supervised 6 staff and managed the State of Alaska STD Program. Multi-tasking and excellent communication skills were a must.

Equine Work Experience

I grew up around horses, but also worked at High Meadows Arabians Ranch in Texas many years ago, as well as North Wind Farm in Wasilla. At High Meadows, I lunged champion Arabian stallions as well as some mares, geldings, fillies and colts. I bathed and groomed in appropriate shower/grooming stalls and moved 40+ horses between stalls/paddock/pasture twice daily. I was responsible for haying, watering, and cleaning over 40 stalls daily as a part of a 3 person team. At North Wind Farm, the owners relied upon me to note any injuries or health concerns with all animals on the premises to include cows, calves, geldings and mares (young and old), 2 stallions, dogs, cats, and chickens. I was also responsible for milking, preparing raw milk shares, feeding, watering, and all stall, paddock and barn cleaning. I worked independently, as well as trained, supervised and scheduled multiple barn staff.

Specialities

Professional individual who would rather work outside with animals than in an office with computers - though I do have those specialized skills. From 2013-2016 I worked for North Wind Farm in Wasilla, AK simply because I loved it. I became the barn manager. Daily chores included milking cows, turning cows in/out of pasture or stalls, moving horses between pasture and stalls, cleaning stalls, working with calves, colts, and fillies to help imprint.

Type of Ride Work

I am not trained for any kind of specialty riding. I grew up in Texas, riding on country roads, pastures, and in trail rides. I have a natural comfort around and respect for horses, which they usually seem to sense and respond to.
