Job Description

Enthusiastic & dedicated groom required for private SJ yard, 5 day week, you will be required to help on yard (all general duties) and may have the opportunity to travel to help at shows from time to time. You must love caring for horses, be happy, positive, efficient & turn out to high standard.

TYPICAL DAY starts 8.15am : feeding, hay, horses on walker, turning out youngsters, mucking out, tacking up/untacking throughout the day - coffee break - , horses off walker, grooming, hot clothing, trimming in wash box - Lunch Break

AFTERNOON: skipping out, hay, check waterer, bring in youngsters from field, feed, sweep yard & horse walker - finish 4.30pm

Optional hacking or riding in school (after work) is available on 2 ex competition horses, if you have a desire to ride, this will also depend on your level of riding as the horses are fit, there are no PLODS or novice rider type horses here. Riders must also not be too heavy for the horses Max 12 stone.

Candidates can bring their own well behaved horses (no Stallions) if they wish at a DIY fee of £30pw. Your horse must be cared for / ridden in your own time not in work time. Jumping lesson are available on your own horse. however we would prefer candidates with no pets/horses

There is an Equine college approx 6 miles from the yard that offers BHS courses part time. We also liaise with NVQ body for those interested in pursuing NVQ qualifications. We are able to offer on-site, a 4 stage Grooming and Horse Care certificates from Beginner through to Elite that are recognised by the British Grooms Association (BGA) for those interested.

Requirements

Must be honest, reliable, cheerful, dedicated, and able to turn out to a high standard, and work in an efficient and calm manner around the horses. These horses are well mannered so I expect the staff to be handle them in a kind manner also - we do not tolerate heavy handed or rough handling at this yard.

PLEASE NO; DRUG USERS, THEIVES, DRAMA QUEENS, BULLIES, HOME SICK, WEIRDOS, NO CRIMINAL RECORDS - This is a nice yard with nice horses & people and we intend to keep it so

Required Skills

Equine First-Aid; Plaiting; Clipping; Trim/Pull.

Required Expertise

Show Jumping; Sole Charge.

Accommodation

The yard is situated in a lovely village style town with great pubs, resturants & shops including a Tesco express & Spar which are 3 minutes in a car / 15 min walking on foot. Candidates with car would be more suited.
