Job Description

DvZ Stud in Western Australia is looking for a female (or couple) to help the owner on her warmblood horse stud. We have some 8 broodmares. There are also young horses here that require handling. Duties include, feeding, handling foals, yrlings and 2 yr olds. All up there are some 25+ horses here.
General duties also are raking leaves, picking up fallen branches, harrowing paddocks and other farm jobs, like painting yards etc.
This position is ideal for travellers who require a couple of weeks or months break from travelling.
I've had Y&G workers here for the last 2 years and some their period here has varied from 1 - 3 months.
The property is pictoresque with large trees and 2 dams. We are 75 kms north of Perth.

Your accommodation is a large comfortable room and your own seperate bathroom, in the main house or in the separate room next to the house. Food is provided and meals are taken together. Basically you will be companion as well as worker and most of the work is done together. A lot of time it is half days with break in afternoon and finish feeding in the afternoon.

We will go to events and see horses compete and visit friends's studs etc. there will be plenty of time for yourself.

As I provide everything there will be no pay but depending on the length of stay I'm happy to assist with tourist ventures.

Since late January I work part time and you will be required to work alone for that day.

Dolly van Zaane owner DvZ Stud

Requirements

I accept couples as there is always some maintenance jobs that require a man! The work is not hard, but it is daily. On hot days we stop early and start later in the afternoon again. PLenty of time to relax and sight see.
Drivers license an advantage but not necessary, but will need to be able to drive on farm as we feed out with a farm ute.

Required Skills

Driving license; Handling Youngstock; Lunging; Starting/Breaking; Natural Horsemanship.

Required Expertise

Stud.

Accommodation

Singe females live in the house with nice bedroom with double bed and seperate own bathroom. For couples I also have a separate room and bathroom next to the house for more privacy.
We prepare and eat meals together.

Benefits

Friendly atmosphere, working with quality warmblood horses, some of the best in Western Australia. Meeting other horse people, being part of the family, going on short tourist trips if so required.
In the last 2 years I have had a number of young people helping me and all have been on the same conditions as via wwoofers and helpx.net - a few hours a day work in exchange for accommodation and food. It has been highly satisfactory from their and my experience. Reference emails can be provided.

The Facility

It is a 170 acres farm. I breed warmblood sport horses of mainly Holsteiner x Dutch breeding. We breed for the 3 disciplines: jumping, dressage and eventing.
There are most of the time some 30+horses here both my own and some agisting here. We are a breeding stud farm and there is no riding involved. Most of the work, depending on the time of year, involves assisting in the breeding season: foaling down and caring for foals and taking mares to the vetclinic. Handling of weanling, yearlings and 2 yr olds.

I offer free in house accommodation & all meals provided with a spacious bedroom and your own seperate bathroom. This is the ideal farm for horse people travelling aorund Australia seeking a 4-6 week break and get some country air while working with horses.
