Equine Science degree from UConn
I am a recent graduate of the University of Connecticut. I have been working this fall as a program instructor at Camp Jewell. I help care for the 14 fall horses, take guests on trail rides, teach lessons and drive our Draft pair for hayrides.
My equine experience starts from a young age. I have worked at barns my whole life in order to pay for lessons and get extra riding time. I can ride Hunter/Jumpers to an extant, dressage at the lower levels and have an understanding of western riding. I also have a decent amount of driving experience including Draft pairs and breaking and training a completely green young horse. I have been taking equine management classes since high school finishing off with my degree in Animal Science classes at the University of Connecticut. I gained a lot of hands on experience at UConn including advanced equine training, green horse driving, stallion handling and foal handling. I also showed and competed on the collegiate Dressage team and served on the executive board for a year.
I am proficient in equine management and care. I am comfortable caring for high performance horses especially those working in dressage. I am also proficient in catch riding. I have never owned my own horse but instead spent much of my time riding boarder's horses, exercising, and riding green horses up to be introductory level dressage horses. I am also able to break and train driving horses and am comfortable long lining and ground driving; including pairs.
I am good at riding all level of horses in lower level dressage horses and making Hunters and Jumpers go well on the flat. I want to learn more about upper levels of dressage and would love to learn to jump at a more proficient level. Overall I am a good catch rider and can get along with most horses under saddle on the flat and most in the dressage ring.
Showed at Training level on the UConn intercollegiate dressage association team.
